As SXSW Film Festival wrapped up, it was our turn to sit in the Theater C to watch CACHADA and enjoy the Q&A with Marlรฉn & Andrรฉ .

This last screening was very special for our founder, Maria, who watched the film along side her mother and grandmother.

Thanks to Marlen’s vision, three generations of strong Salvadoran women were able to see parts of their lives reflected on screen as so many women did throughout the week.

We are proud to be part of the second successful screening of CACHADA at SXSW!

On a quick visit to the theater on 6th Street we were happy to learn that as the SXSW Film Festival rolls on, the buzz about this Salvadoran documentary continues to grow.

Our merch table has been the hub for conversation as filmgoers stop for their piece of CACHADA.

A touching send off for the cast of CACHADA before they travel back to El Salvador, marking this screening as the last time the cast/crew would be in attendance at SXSW. Thank You Marlรฉn, Andrรฉ and the cast/crew of La Cachada Teatro for this beautiful piece of art.

Join us in ATX this Friday at 11am for the last screening of #cachadafilm. @ Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar

Still on a high from everything that happened on Day 1 at SXSW! Felicidades Cachada on the world premiere of the incredibly raw documentary, to the ladies of La Cachada Teatro for opening up to us all and Marlen & Andre for capturing and producing the film. El Salvador made a huge presence on 6th St. & everyone took notice of the love & energy from those that saw the film.

Thank You Gloria’s Latin Cuisine for hosting a beautiful reception where we all shared a moment with the production team & stars as we savored the delicious Salvi cuisine.

Special shout out to everyone that drove in from around the region (Hou, Dal, etc) and especially the Consulado De ElSalvador Houston & Consejo de Comunidades Salvadoreรฑas en Houston for helping bring our community together to support this film.

CACHADA, a Salvadoran docufilm by Marlรฉn Viรฑayo, is making itโs world premiere at the SXSW Film Festival on March 10th.

2019 STARTS WITH EL SALVADOR REPRESENTING AT SXSW!!!!
Last month we had the honor of hosting A Conversation with Andrรฉ R. Guttfreund in partnership with UH Center for Mexican American Studies. During that event Andre screened the trailer of the Salvadoran film he produced called Cachada: The Opportunity…today we have the pleasure of sharing with you that it has just been announced as the first Salvadoran film to be featured at SXSW. This documentary will be making it’s World Premiere in Austin, TX this March at one of the most prestigious film festivals in the world.
Major Congratulations to Andre and especially to the WOMEN behind the film…it’s director Marlรฉn Viรฑayo and the ALL FEMALE CAST composed of Evelin Chileno, Magaly Lemus, Ruth H. Vega, Magdalena Henrรญquez, Wendy Hernรกndez, and Egly Larreynaga.
Five Salvadoran women -poor, single mothers, street vendors- have decided to embark on an unlikely dream: they want to become theater actresses.
After forming their own company, they accept the challenge of putting on a play through which they’ll bring their cruel life stories to the stage. What began as an experiment has turned into the only opportunity to transform their lives, but will they be able to face their past and get over their fears, traumas and dark secrets?
Filmed over a year and a half, this observational documentary is witness to the process of creating their play, through which they’ll discover themselves as victims and victimizers in a cycle of multigenerational violence.

Yes Prep – Gulfton opened their doors and hosted a special Conversation with Andrรฉ R. Guttfreund for their fine arts students. The visit gave students an opportunity to talk with Andre, watch some of the shorts & animations being produced in Central America and learn more about storytelling.

A special thanks to Mr. Oscar Romano for helping coordinate the visit.
